This course, Resilience in Healthcare Systems: Strategies and Leadership, takes a system-level view of resilience in a straightforward and low-cost online module. While much of the discourse in healthcare has emphasized individual resilience, this quick study course seeks to shift the focus toward system-level resilience. This quick study introduces resilience theory in the Canadian healthcare context, explores strategies for building resilient systems through communication and collaboration, and highlights the leadership skills essential for adapting through external stressors such as pandemics, workforce shortages, or climate-related disasters and internal stressors like organizational culture, leadership effectiveness, and team dynamics.
Authored by Abby Sirisegaram-Cole (Masters in Science in Organizational Leadership from Johns Hopkins University, HBSc, BSc, RTT, PMP, CMP), this course demonstrates that organizational resilience is crucial for implementing systemic changes that support healthcare workers and improve patient outcomes and develop supportive work environments, effective leadership, and cohesive teams.
