CAMRT is proud to launch this new module (2025) on Trauma Imaging. This vital topic is covered in an accessible and convenient format, acknowledging that emergency trauma impacts departments throughout the country, not just dedicated trauma hospitals. Further your understanding of stabilization, preparation and imaging, to best support the timely diagnostics that are critical in trauma imaging.
Whether working out of a dedicated-trauma center or a non-dedicated facility, the imaging produced is crucial to guiding patient care in the trauma patient. Emergency trauma imaging is a dynamic and challenging aspect of our profession, requiring a blend of technical expertise, clinical knowledge, and rapid decision-making. This course is designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in this critical area; ultimately improving patient outcomes through more accurate and efficient imaging practices. Jessica Kimber (MClSc, CTIC, BHSc, RTR) is our author, please take a moment to learn from a fellow MRT who holds a Master of Clinical Science in Advanced Health Care Practice from Western University and is working towards a First Responders Trauma Prevention and Recovery certificate through Simon Fraser University.
Learning Objectives:
- Analyze lateral c-spine, AP chest, and AP pelvic X-rays using systematic methods
- Summarize common traumatic injury presentations
- Differentiate common mechanisms of injury and their impact
- Recognize primary and secondary signs of injury
- Compare image optimizations and technical constraints
- Discuss adaptations of images to accommodate for injury
- Discuss the fundamentals of polytrauma CT
- Apply critical thinking and adaptability in the context of emergency trauma imaging
