Interventional Radiology I is designed to enhance the technologists’ knowledge of anatomy and pathology, and to discuss the imaging systems used in IR suites. Radiation safety, infection control, patient management, the inter professional IR team, and the accessory equipment used in interventional suites will also be discussed. A large portion of IR 1 is a comprehensive review of the pathological processes that may require treatment in the IR suite.

It is expected that the MRT taking this course will have exposure and experience working within an Interventional radiology environment. Technologists may need to take the initiative to speak with their healthcare colleagues working in IR to enhance their understanding of practice in this inter-professional environment where the role of the technologist is very different from that of a technologist working in a general radiology area.

It is expected that candidates who have not yet successfully completed the required Vascular Anatomy prerequisite exam have the foundational knowledge required to proceed. Candidates acknowledge this exam must be successfully completed for eligibility into the CIR program. Registration for the Vascular Anatomy exam is available under the Challenge Exams tab in the left-hand side of CPD Catalogue.

This course will run for one term, includes assignments, and registering for it automatically enrolls you into the required final exam. Registration into this course does not register you into a certificate program.

This course is assessed at 40 continuing education hours in Canada and also recognized by the ARRT for 10.5 Category A credits.
