This course is assessed at 55 continuing education hours in Canada and also recognized by the ARRT for 10 Category A credits.
Students will require access to a treatment planning system (TPS) for this course.
Depending on how much experience the student has in dosimetry, some help may be required in learning the TPS in their department. Students are encouraged to talk to their manager prior to registering for this course if access to the TPS needs to be arranged or negotiated.
This course is designed as a treatment planning refresher course for radiation therapists. It allows the student to become acquainted with their current treatment planning system and discusses some of the site-specific issues that arise within everyday treatment planning practice. Radiation therapists currently working in treatment planning or those who simply wish to refresh their treatment planning skills will find this course to be both informative and practical.
This course makes references to a mentor as you may need assistance from time to time. This may be one individual or a group of individuals that are willing to assist you with the TPS basics as well as treatment planning fundamentals and principles.
The Canadian Organization of Medical Physicists (COMP) has reviewed and endorsed the Dosimetry courses and Certificate program.
