In all of our diagnostic imaging worlds the patient is at the centre of what we do and why we do it. Technology will continue to advance and improve care, but the human element will always be the most critical part of our role. In the past 20 years, there has been a great focus on patient and family-centered care in our healthcare systems and that is translating into our educational programs as well. Traditionally education programs have the student and their needs as the focus of post-secondary education, however the reimaging of the patient voice has shifted the culture in our programs.
The presentation will be the journey that one post secondary in Canada is taking to implement the patient voice and perspective into our curriculum and looking at different methods of that implementation. It will discuss the importance of the patient voice in education and how we balance it with student needs. The presentation will discuss the framework, tools and committees that have been created to provide structure and guidance to the implementation for faculty. Lastly it will look at where we are moving in the future and how we are changing a culture to include that patient voice.
