1) Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) and its Role in Quality Improvement and Diagnostic Imaging

Presenter: Joey Cheng-Singleton, M.Sc.(QIPS), MRT(MR)(R), Hospital for Sick Children

This session will consist of a high level overview of the basis of quality improvement (QI) and patient in healthcare. What does it mean to provide the 'best quality of care' as healthcare workers or leadership?

We will explore how EDI impacts QI and the drivers for change by highlighting the evolution of EDI in QI in the past, current applications, and how we can steer the trajectory of healthcare equity for the better. Through the introduction of a framework for achieving healthcare equity, examples (general and diagnostic imaging specific) will be used show how all organizations – big or small - could incorporate EDI at every level of practice.

- Define quality improvement in healthcare.
- Demonstrate the impact and evolution of EDI in quality improvement initiatives.
- Propose a framework for achieving healthcare equity.
- Discuss how technologists/organizations can incorporate EDI into practice.

2) Uncomfortable Conversations on Unconscious Bias and Why We Should Have Them

Presenter: Stephanie Lea, RTR, MAHSR, MPhil, PhD(c), Dalhousie University

This presentation aims to foster awareness and understanding of unconscious bias and collectively explore the significance of engaging in uncomfortable conversations surrounding unconscious bias, highlighting the benefits of such dialogue in fostering mutual understanding and promoting inclusivity. By openly confronting our biases and learning from diverse perspectives, we can cultivate an environment conducive to growth, empathy, and collective learning.

Learning Objectives:
- Describe what is meant by the term unconscious bias.
- Discuss methods to identify and address unconscious bias in ourselves and others.
- Provide strategies and resources to support and facilitate uncomfortable conversations effectively and productively.
- Emphasize the value of listening to and learning from diverse perspectives to promote inclusivity and equity.
